Pinterest for Inspiration
If you’ve never heard of pinterest before, you must have been living
under a rock for the last year. It has become the fastest growing social media
platform ever, and recently came out of beta testing, meaning you no longer
need an invite from someone to join, you can just sign up.
From the pinterest
about page
Pinterest
lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web.
People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize
their favorite recipes.
Best
of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is
a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your
interests.
What can pinterest be used for?
The beauty of pinterest is that if you can think
of an idea, someone has pinned something about it before. Using the search bar
and creating new boards, you can keep all your inspiration in one place. I’ve
created boards after spotting red velvet and cake pops and food in jars trends using
these methods.
I’ve used pinterest for research (I’ve got an idea) and
gathering information (bloggy
bloggy) and making others smile (laugh
and the whole world laughs too) and remembering words (read this, wise words).
But
what’s next?
After pinning randomly for several months, and
starting to see the same things come around again, I asked myself the same
question “why was I pinning all this stuff?” I would probably never build a cubby house for my
kids, or cook amazing
meals or sew amazing
quilts. Then why was I doing it?
In 2012, I chose DO as my One Little Word (you
can read more about One Little Word
on Ali Edwards blog), so I knew that I had to actually start DOing. That’s how Less
Pinterest More Do was born. Now, when I spend hours on pinterest, I can say
it’s for research! You can see all the things I’ve been inspired to create by checking
here.
A word
of warning
If you are inspired by images, pinterest can
suck away your day!
Cate is
an Australian who blogs about life behind the purple door. When she isn’t
procrastinating on pinterest, she’s learning about scouting, or baking awesome
recipes she pinned from pinterest. She is also obsessed with Christmas, and
knows that it is only 128 sleeps until the fat man visits. If you’re obsessed
with Christmas, why not consider writing a guest post? Find all the information
on her blog or facebook page.
Thank you Cate for such a wonderful post! I love finding inspirations daily and Pinterest is a wonderful place to be inspired! Cate and I met during the Blogging Olympics, hosted by Caylie from Better Business Better Life.
If you haven't check out pinterest yet, then there are some fantastic links in this post to get started. Just be prepared Cate isn't stretching the truth, you are highly likely to spend hours enjoying the smorgasbord of images found there.

ReplyDeleteI also nominated you for the Liebster Blog Award..to go claim it, you can head on over to my blog to see what to do! http://takeitlikeamommy.blogspot.com/2012/08/liebster-blog-award.html
I wish I could say the same! I've gotten sucked into Pinterest looked up and wondered where all the time went! Thanks for the award, I'm a little behind on posting awards, will get to as soon as I complete the Blogging Olympics
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing my post!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. It's a great post, I really like it!
ReplyDeleteOh, pinterest! Must go there now! LOL!
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteI am still to get on the pinterest wagon but always good to understand it more, thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThanks for following and I am following back... I have set up a Pinterest account but Haven't gotten sucked in yet... I am trying hard not to get sucked it:)
ReplyDeleteWith it growing so quickly, it's becoming a fun graphical way to connect with your friends, but I respect not getting on the pinterest wagon too. O really have lost hours in the past with it, but now I use it more like Cate suggests in this post, as inspiration to "do" something with.
ReplyDelete:-) Hard to not get sucked in to Pinterest sometimes! :-)
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I've never bothered with Pinterest so far, but have been interested in all the Internet Marketers raving about it. That's mostly to sell their 'how to use Pinterest' guide though! Having said that, I may now go and take another look - thanks for the nudge! Cheers, Gordon
ReplyDeleteFor real, Gordon. I get some traffic from Pinterest, but not so much that I really find it a useful place to hang out. It's more time-waste than business-savvy for me. But it is fun for a de-stresser now and again. :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree. I get a small amount of traffic from Pinterest. I've heard it has some business potential, but have yet to meet anyone who is still getting good rates from it since it has opened up to everyone without needing an invitation. For the most part, I like it for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI love pinterest, but it's true, we can spend hours on pinterest without noticing ;)
ReplyDeleteThat can certainly be true for me! :-)
