I have two hurdles. One is pretty small. I just need to catch up in the Blogging Olympics. Today and tonight, my primary focus is going to be on catching up. I CAN do it (a little positive self-talk to get myself going there)!
The other hurdle is a much higher hurdle to jump over. Actually it’s more like a series of hurdles with increasing difficulty. Although, I will probably go my creative Fibro style and simply crawl under the hurdles rather than attempting the actual jumps, if I were talking about literal hurdles that is. Of course, this will take me longer, but I’ll reach the finish line.
So what is the series of hurdles you ask? Okay, I know you didn’t ask, but the challenge for the Blogging Olympics #6 is to write about the hurdles your blog and/or business faces.
So here goes my hurdles:
1. I need to engage more people with my blog. Basically, I need to get more Facebook likes, Networked Blogs Follows, Twitter People, and GFC Followers. And I actually have no idea what the best way to do this is with a relatively new blog. I really need to build a support community of a wonderful group of people who care. I think the Blogging Olympics is going to be great for this.
2. I need to focus on writing great content and illustrating inspiring quotes and thoughts to keep people visiting and being willing to follow and share.
3. I need to get my website for Fibromyalgia Awareness up and running. This consists of lots of little hurdles, including money for a domain name and hosting, coming up with a design that compliments my blog and Facebook page, writing about 15 more hard hitting (ok more like strongly helpful and informational) articles for the website, and then marketing it.
4. I need to develop a budget and figure out how to make enough money to start up a 501c3 (Non-profit) tax –exempt organization. Which also entails setting up a board of directors, filling out a ton of forms, filing fees and more, but I don’t plan to even start that until I have enough money for the process.
5. I want to add more products in my Zazzle store. I have some more designs to add and I think I can set up the store better. 100% of the profits (Zazzle gets most of the money for providing the materials and handling the silk screening, so it’s not as much as it seems that is actual profit, but every bit helps) from this go to Fibromyalgia Awareness. I think the first bit of profits might go to helping get the 501c3 setup as that will be a key component in getting further funding through fundraising efforts, grants, and donations.
6. And last, but not least, my absolutely biggest hurdle that I need to get past to accomplish everything on this list is my body. I must maintain a great diet, light exercises, medications, and alternative therapies so that my body can actually handle going through all of these things. I must also pay attention to what my body is saying and slow down when needed, stop if necessary, go backwards a few steps if I need to, or keep running forward full blast. I refuse to allow Fibromyalgia keep me from following my dreams.
In a nutshell, these are the hurdles I am currently facing with my blog and future nonprofit organization. Truthfully, they are more like steps on the path, I just have to jump a little further and stretch myself more to reach some of them. I also need to take it one step at a time, instead of frantically hopping around trying to land multiple steps at the same time.
Bit by bit, I intend to crawl under my hurdles (honestly, I have Fibro, there’s no way I’m going to start running and jumping hurdles) and accomplish each one bit by bit. I just need to have the patience and control over my pain levels and fogginess to focus on each thing one at a time. It also would help to know the best ways to do these things ahead of time, so I don't spend a lot of time trying to learn things that other people already know and can tell me about, especially on how to get more follower and likes and stuff.
Does anyone else face the same hurdles? Also, if any of you have any ideas on how to improve anything in any of my hurdles I’d love your input! I’m hoping for some serious blog advice on gaining followers and great tools to use here. HINT HINT.
Actually any input would be helpful. I’ve only had this blog going for about two months and have learned enough to know that I have a ton more to learn.
is there any way that you can do those things just through your blog? can't you build awareness that way, without the added stress of boards of directors/websites/creating to make money, etc?
ReplyDeleteThe first way to build a community for your blog is to share posts - find other places in the same niche, and help by answering questions, sharing relevant blog posts, having a "call to action" built into each post, and play with your writing styles - some people may not always have time to read lengthy, chatty posts, mix it up with dot point lists, photographs (photos you've taken yourself are always great)
Here's another idea - as a scrapbooker, you know who Stacey Julian is - embrace her blog-as-scrapbook philosophy, and share some of the personal stories mixed in with facts. A lot of prefessional bloggers will tell you that the posts that get them the most hits and comments are the personal-about-my-life types of stories.
phew, sorry for the essay!
Very nice blog. I am following you now. Please drop by to Carole's Chatter and check

series which focuses on a different ingredient. This week it was Berries and
Currants. If you like my blog it would be great if you followed me back. Have a good week.
PS I have only been going for less than a year but if you have any specific questions I'd be happy to try to help.
Thanks for stopping by. I bet I will love your food on Friday section. Diet is a really important part of combating fibromyalgia symptoms.
