Darkness sets in earlier every night. Leaves are falling from the trees and blanketing the ground. The air is getting crisper. The days are getting colder. Halloween is just around the corner! One of my favorite activities to do on cold blustery evenings is cuddle in a blanket and watch movies. Of course, during October it makes sense to watch Halloween movies. Halloween movies can be funny, cute, scary, or downright gory.
I compiled a list of my top five favorite PG-13 or below rated movies that might actually be a little unexpected.
#5 Gremlins (1984) PG

#4 Coraline (2009) PG
Quick Overview: A little girl discovers the grass isn’t always greener on the other side when she finds another world that seems like a much happier place than her own home. Unfortunately, the new world has sinister secrets.
Memorable Quote: Coraline says, “I can see you don’t have button eyes, but…if you’re the same cat, how can you talk?” Cat responds, “I just can.”
#3 Beetlejuice (1988) PG
(has “F#@*” word in it though)Quick Overview: A lovely recently diseased couple wants to remove the obnoxious new owners of their house, so they hire a “bio exorcist” to help.
Memorable Quote: Lydia says, “Well, I've read through that handbook for the recently deceased. It says: 'live people ignore the strange and unusual. I, myself, am strange and unusual.”

#1 Practical Magic (1998) PG 13

Memorable quote: Aunt Frances Owens says “My darling girl, when are you going to realize that being normal is not necessarily a virtue? It rather denotes a lack of courage!”
Is it strange that I haven’t seen Gremlins? A few of my friends and my DISH coworkers love the movie, and say it was a staple of our childhood. I was thinking that I should watch it this year, and see what the fuss is all about. And you’re right; it seems like a pretty good Halloween movie, so I think I’ll watch it as part of a scary movie marathon. I’m going to rent it and a few other movies from Blockbuster @Home and watch them on Halloween night. They ship really fast, so I should have my movies way before the 31st, and I’m looking forward to finally seeing Gremlins. It sounds like I’ve been missing out.
